Mary A. Coyne, 92
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. â€' Mary Agnes Coyne, 92, of 445 Church St. died Saturday, April 18, 2009, at her home, where she had been attended by her loving family.Born in North Adams on April 27, 1916, daughter of Michael J. and Nora Carey Buckley Coyne, she attended city schools and graduated from the former St. Joseph's High School in 1934 as salutatorian.
Miss Coyne was office manager of the former Burns Insurance Agency and retired from the formery Gallup-Dickey Insurance Agency, now part of Greylock Insurance Agency. She first worked as a secretary for the late Judge John McGinnis.
She was a communicant of the former St. Francis of Assisi Church and member of its Rosary Society. She enjoyed traveling throughout the United States with friends and family and also trips to Europe and Ireland. She walked every day, until last October.
She leaves her sister, Catherine "Kitty" Chalifoux, and her beloved niece, Cathy Chalifoux, with whom she made her home; other nieces and nephews including Michael Chalifoux and Terrance Coyne and his wife, Debra, all of North Adams, Thomas Chalifoux and his wife, Carolyn, of Adams, Mary Ann Chalifoux of New Baltimore, N.Y., Lois LaCasse and her husband, Carmen, of Virginia and Michael Furlong and his wife, Nancy, of Treasure Island, Fla.; grandnieces and grandnephews including Caitlin, Nora, Michael and his wife, Susan, and Daniel, and a great-grandnephew, Colin.
She was predeceased by four brothers and another sister, John L. Coyne, James E. Coyne, William T. Buckley, Police Chief William F. Coyne and Barbara Furlong; a brother-in-law, Jean Chalifoux, and several nieces and nephews including William Buckley, Richard Coyne and Dorothy Furlong.
FUNERAL NOTICE â€' The funeral for Miss Coyne will be Wednesday, April 22, at 10:15 from Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11 at St. Elizabeth's Church. Burial will follow in Southview cemetery.
Calling hours at the funeral home will be Tuesday from 4 to 7. Donations are suggested to VNA & Hospice of Northern Berkshire.
