William S. Muir, 57
WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. - William Steven Muir, 57, of Danbury, Conn., died Thursday, Jan. 22, 2009, at Danbury Hospital. Mr. Muir had family in Williamstown.Born in Willimantic, Conn., on Nov. 17, 1951, son of Theresa Marie Gee Muir of Williamstown and the late Robert Earl Muir Sr., he lived and worked there until moving to Danbury in 1980. He had resided at Danbury Health Care Center since 1994.
Mr. Muir worked as a machine and equipment operator for a number of companies over the years, including Hubbell Manufacturing, American Thread Co. and Brand Rex.
An elected member of the health center's Residents Council, he served as president for a number of years and was known as a strong advocate for residents, always willing to promote the cause of those least fortunate. He was an animal lover and an avid collector of coins, eagle figures and memorabilia. In addition, he created beautiful felt art paintings of animals and landscapes.
Mr. Muir was a wonderful son, brother, and friend. Billy endeared himself to many, especially children, with his smile and humor, leaving a lasting impression on all he met.
Besides his mother, he leaves his brother, Robert E. Muir Jr. and his wife, JoAnn, of Williamstown; his sister, Susan E. Baker and her husband, William C. Baker, of Willimantic, his nephews Scott J. E. Baker of Lebanon, Conn., Bryan E. Muir of Cambridge and Christopher E. Muir of Brooklyn, N.Y., and by his extended family in Danbury, including friends and the caring staff at Danbury Health Care.
FUNERAL NOTICE - A memorial Mass followed by a reception will be held on Feb. 9 at 2 at Danbury Health Care Center, 107 Osborne St., Danbury, Conn. A private burial will take place in Willimantic, Conn., at the family’s convenience. Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson St., Willimantic, Conn., is in charge of arrangements.
