Leo P. Cyr, 76
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. - Leo Paul "Spike" Cyr, 76, of 4 Cherokee Drive died Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2009, at home.Born in Cohoes, N.Y. on Aug. 24, 1932, a son of Leon and Rose Fecteau Cyr, he attended schools in North Adams, including the former Holy Family School.
He was an Air Force veteran of the Korean War, obtaining the ran master sergeant. He served in the Air Force Reserve for 20 years, and also had served in a Navy Construction Battalion (SeaBee) in Massachusetts.
Mr. Cyr was firefighter for the city of North Adams, retiring in 1987 as a lieutenant.
He was a communicant of the Parish of Pope John Paul the Great, formerly the Parishes of Notre Dame-St. Thomas Aquinas, in Adams. He was a member of VFW Post 996 and American Legion Post 125. He enjoyed motorcycles, model airplanes, boating and camping.
His wife, the former Donna Lesure Cyr, whom he married in 1974, died Jan. 27, 2007.
He leaves a son, Stephen Cyr of North Adams, and a stepson, Scott Strange of Clarksburg; two daughters, Jacqueline Andrews of Pittsfield and Jennifer Rose of North Adams, and a stepdaughter, Kelly Tatro of North Adams; two brothers, Rene Cyr of Williamstown and Henry A. Cyr of North Adams; two sisters, Theresa St. Pierre and Laurette St. Pierre, both of North Adams, nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by a stepdaughter, Lori Strange McDonough Lype in 2004.
FUNERAL NOTICE - Funeral services will take place Tuesday at 9 from Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at the Parish of Pope John Paul the Great in Adam. Burial with military honors with follow in Southview Cemetery.
Calling hours at the funeral home will be Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. Memorial donations are suggested for the Parish of Pope John Paul the Great or the charity of the donor's choice through the funeral home.
