Thomas W. Cullen Sr., 93
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. â€' Thomas William Cullen Sr., 93, of 400 Bouchell Drive, New Smyrna Beach, Fla., formerly of 218 Prospect St., died Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2008, at Fairgeen Assisted Living Center in New Smyrna Beach.Born in San Diego on June 22, 1915, a son of Thomas D. and Anna Curley Cullen, he graduated from Drury High School and from George Washington University in Washington, D.C.
Mr. Cullen was employed for over 50 years by the former Sprague Electric Co., retiring in 1982. Following his retirement, he worked as a consultant, selling used industrial machinery in Europe and Puerto Rico.
He was a communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Church and a member of the Sprague Management and Sprague Quarter Century clubs. He was active in the Boy Scouts and was the local chairman. He was awarded the Ad Altare Award by then Bishop Christopher Weldon for his contributions to Scouting. He also served two terms on the North Adams School Committee.
His wife, the former Rita Frances Rhodes, whom he married on Sept. 23, 1939, died Dec. 13, 2005.
He leaves a daughter, Barbara Ann Clayton of West Yarmouth; two sons, Thomas W. Cullen Jr. of Cedar City, Utah, and William J. Cullen of Salem, N.Y.; 11 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
FUNERAL NOTICE â€' A memorial service for Thomas Cullen Sr. will be held in the spring. Burial will be in Southview Cemetery.
