Elizabeth P. Sharkey, 93

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. â€' Elizabeth Patricia Sharkey (Sarchi), 93, of St. Joseph's Court, 85 Eagle St., a former longtime resident of 193 Church St., died Wednesday< Aug. 15, 2007, at Albany (N.Y.) Medical Center.

Born in Utica, N.Y., on March 22, 1914, daughter of Lawrence and Mary Wojieck Pikul, she moved to Adams as an infant and attended local schools.

During World War II, Mrs. Sharkey attended a school in Bethpage, Long Island, N.Y., and worked in Freeport, Long Island, for Grumman Aircraft Corp. She was later employed by Boeing Aircraft Co. in Spokane, Wash.

Mrs. Sharkey was employed by the former Sprague Electric Co. for more than 35 years, retiring in 1984. At one time, she was employed by the former Rich's Cut Rate Store on Main Street and Jolley Jewelers on Eagle Street. Mrs. Sharkey also assisted her late husband, Carl Sharkey, and her father-in-law, Joseph Sharkey, in the operation of the former Casino Bowling Alleys and Berkshire Sign Co. She had also had been employed by Macy's department store in New York after the war.

She was a communicant of St. Anthony's Church. She was a member of the Sprague Retirees and the Sprague Quarter Century Club. She was a former member of the Italian Girls Club and of its championship bowling team for several years.

Her husband, Carl Joseph Sharkey, whom she married April 25, 1942, in St. Thomas' Church in Adams, died Feb. 16, 1978.

She leaves a son, Michael J. Sarchi and his wife, Linda, of North Adams; a daughter, Patricia Skarwecki and her husband, Edward, of Littleton, Colo.; four sisters, Gertrude Amuso of Pittsfield, Irene Larese of North Adams, Suzanne Gagnon of Adams and Pauline Doyle of Sacramento, Calif., and four grandchildren, Bryan Sarchi of Tempe, Ariz., Kristie Sarchi of South Boston, and Stephanie Skarwecki and Caroline Skarwecki, both of Boca Raton, Fla., and nieces and nephews.

Four brothers are deceased, Stanley Wojieck, Joseph Pikul, Peter Pikul and Francis Pikul.

FUNERAL NOTICE â€' Services for Mrs. Sharkey will be Monday at 10:15 a.m. from FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS CENTRAL CHAPELS, 74 Marshall St., North Adams, followed by a funeral Mass at 11 a.m. at St. Anthony's Church. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery.

Calling hours are Sunday from 5 to 7 at the funeral home. Donations may be made to the charity of donor's choice.
