Vincent H. Sweeney, 85
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Vincent Hilary Sweeney, 85, of 180 Pleasant St., died Tuesday,July 31, 2007, at Sweet Brook Care Centers in Williamstown.Born in Brockton on Oct. 21, 1921, son of Edward and Mary Goldrick Sweeney, he moved to Westborough and graduated from Westborough High School. He also graduated from Boston College and from George Washington University Law School. He moved to North Adams in 1955.
An Army veteran of World War II, he was awarded the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Campaign Ribbon, American Theater Campaign Ribbon, Victory Medal and Good Conduct Medal.
Mr. Sweeney was employed with the former Sprague Electric Co. for more than 45 years as manager of the patent department. He had first worked at the Patent Office in Washington, D.C., for several years.
He was a longtime communicant of the former Notre Dame Church and the former St. Francis' Church, where he served on the church council. He also served on the board of Landmark Credit Union. He was a member of Frank R. Stiles Post 125 American Legion and of the VFW in Westborough.
He leaves his wife, the former Audrey Dearing, whom he married June 6, 1953, in Washington, D.C.; three sons, Paul Dearing Sweeney and his wife, Anna, of Chester, Conn., John Hilary Sweeney and his wife, Liesl Steiner, of Annapolis, Md., and Peter Michael Sweeney of Hyde Park, Vt., and three grandchildren, Sam, Virginia and Benjamin Sweeney.
FUNERAL NOTICE — A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Mr. Sweeney will take place Saturday at 9 a.m. at St. Anthony of Padua Church in North Adams. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery.
Calling hours will be Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, CENTRAL CHAPELS, 74 Marshall St., North Adams. Memorial donations are suggested for the charity of the donor's choice through the funeral home.
