Ruth Sears Sumner, 80
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. - Ruth M. Sears Sumner, 80, of 18 1/2 Washington Ave. died Friday, March 30, 2007, at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield.Born in Adams on Dec. 7, 1926, daughter of Louis and Gertrude Horner Roberts, she attended schools there.
Mrs. Sumner worked for several years at the Adams Action Center and Council on Aging, retiring in 1994. Before that, she was employed by the former Warren Wire Co. in Pownal, Vt., and the former Brayman Store.
She was a communicant of the Parish of Notre Dame-St. Thomas in Adams and enjoyed knitting and cooking.
Her first husband, Arnold W. Sears, is deceased.
Her husband, Stanley H. Sumner Sr., whom she married May 20, 1961, died Sept. 15, 1985.
She leaves a son, Arnold W. Sears Jr. of Dalton; three daughters, Florence R. Sears and Irene L. Hathaway, both of Pittsfield, and Theresa M. Johnson of North Adams; a stepson, Stanley H. Sumner Jr. of Pittsfield; a stepdaughter, Linda Brown of Florida; four sisters, Carmel Bleau and Adeline Segala, both of North Adams, Evelyn Riddle of Missouri and Elizabeth Carpenter of Adams; 11 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Three stepsons, Harold Sumner, David Sumner and Paul Sumner; four sisters, Theresa Gagnon, Marcella Brothers, Margaret Tinny and Helen Talarico, and a grandson, Jeffrey Sargent, are deceased.
FUNERAL NOTICE - Services for Mrs. Sumner will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. from TROTTIER-PRINGLE FUNERAL HOME, 6 Summer St., Adams. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery in North Adams.
Calling hours at the funeral home will be Wednesday from 8 a.m. until the time of the service. Donations in her memory may be made to Berkshire Medical Center's renal dialysis through the funeral home.
