Madaliene M. Shields, 84
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Madaliene Mary Shields, 84, of 339 Franklin St., died Friday, Feb. 23, 2007, at home of cancer.Born in North Adams on Aug. 24, 1922, daughter of Frank and Elena Pozzi Davies, she was a 1939 graduate of Drury High School. She attended Utah State University and graduated from Springfield Hospital School of Nursing.
Mrs. Shields was employed by The Springs restaurant in New Ashford for more than 30 years. Later, she was employed by Sweetwood Retirement Community in Williamstown.
She raised toy poodles and enjoyed traveling, gardening, needlepoint and bridge. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and aunt.
Her husband, Massachusetts National Guard Lt. Col. John J. Shields Jr., died June 20, 1988. He was a former circulation manager of the North Adams Transcript.
She leaves a son, John J. Shields III and his wife, Diane, of North Adams; a daughter, Susan N. Shields of Reading; a brother, Richard Davies of North Adams; a stepbrother, Alan Davignon and his wife, Denise, of Seattle; four grandchildren, John J. Shields IV, Jeffrie Shields and his wife, Karen, and Andrew and Alissa Riley; two step-great-grandchildren, Nathan and Kaitlyn Brown; two step-great-grandchildren; her brother- and sister-in-law, John and Ellen Shields Tietgens, and their children, Joan Calvi, Jane Sullivan, Jean Kurpiel and John Tietgens Jr., and other nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
She was predeceased by another brother, Robert Davies, and her sister-in-law Cynthia Davies.
