William W. Markham, 75

SHEFFIELD, Mass. — William W. Markham, 75, of Sheffield died Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2005, at Timberlyn Heights Nursing in Great Barrington.

Born at the family home in Sheffield on July 14, 1930, son of John F. Markham Sr. and Lovina Bailey Markham, he attended schools there.

Mr. Markham retired in 1996 as superintendent of the New Marlborough Highway Department. He also had worked as a farmer, logger and truck driver.

He was a longtime member of the North American Hunting Club and enjoyed fishing, camping and outdoor life.

He and his wife, the former Virginia LaRock, were married Nov. 24, 1973.

Besides his wife, he leaves two daughters, Rose Glaszcz and Laurie Flint, both of Sheffield; three sisters, Leona Brazee and Ethel E. Hitchcock, both of Sheffield, and Luella DeLand of Alford, five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by three other sisters, Hazel Palmer, Marjorie Bradley and Elsie Gingras, and two brothers, Louis Markham and John Markham Jr.

FUNERAL NOTICE — Services for Mr. Markham will be conducted tomorrow at 11 a.m. at FINNERTY & STEVENS FUNERAL HOME in Great Barrington by the Rev. Daniel Papineau, MIC. Burial will follow in Alfred Lesh Cemetery in Sheffield.

The family will receive friends Sunday, Oct. 2, from 2 to 5 at the funeral home. Those who desire, may make memorial contributions to the Southern Berkshire Volunteer Ambulance Squad through the funeral home, 426 Main St., Great Barrington, MA 01230.
