Raymond J. Calvi, 89
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. â€' Raymond J. Calvi, 89, of 103 East Ave. died Tuesday, May 3, 2005, at Sweet Brook Care Centers in Williamstown after a short illness.Born in Boston on Oct. 27, 1915, son of Joseph P. and Lena Cantone Calvi, he was raised in North Adams and was a 1933 graduate of Drury High School.
Mr. Calvi was employed for more than 47 years by the former Sprague Electric Co., retiring in 1980 as its quality assurance and reliability manager. In that position, he coordinated the company's work for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration.
After retiring, he was plant manager for five years at Butkin Precision on Roberts Drive, overseeing its production of aircraft housings for jet engines.
He was a longtime communicant of St. Anthony's Church and a member of the Sprague Quarter Century and Management clubs and the Sprague Retirees.
His wife, the former Pauline Frances Marchio, whom he married on March 20, 1937, in Hoosick Falls, N.Y., died May 28, 2004.
He leaves a son, Bruce P. Calvi and his wife, Joan Tietgens Calvi, of Clarksburg; a brother, Julius M. Calvi of North Adams; three grandchildren, Jeffrey C. Calvi, Jennifer K. Belisle and her husband, Bruce, and Bernard J. Calvi and his fiancée, Sharon Richards; four great-grandchildren, Elijah Calvi, Lucia Calvi, Ashlyn Belisle, Camryn Belisle, and sister-in-law, MaryAnn Siciliano Calvi.
A brother, Bernard J. Calvi, died on the Bataan Death March in the Philippines on July 16, 1942, during World War II, and another brother, Joseph Calvi, died in infancy in 1925.
FUNERAL NOTICE â€' Services for Mr. Calvi will private for family and relatives at 9:45 on Saturday, May 7, at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, Central Chapels, 74 Marshall St., followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial celebrated at 10:30 at St. Anthony of Padua Church, 64 Marshall St., by the Rev. Daniel J. O'Hear, pastor.
Burial will be in Southview Cemetery. There will be no calling hours. The omission of flowers is requested.
