Bernard V. Germanowski, 81

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Bernard Vincent Germanowski, 81, of 10 Hodges Cross Road died Sunday, April 10, 2005, at home after a brief illness.

Born in Pittsfield on Jan. 22, 1924, son of Ludwig and Bronislawa Brzozowski Germanowski, he attended local schools, including Pittsfield High School. He moved to North Adams in 1961.

An Army veteran, he served from 1948 until his honorable discharge in 1950.

Mr. Germanowski was employed by GE in Pittsfield in its power transformer division and later in the Naval Ordnance division as a tool and die maker. He retired in 1986 with more than 39 years of service. Earlier, he had worked at the former May Engineering in Pittsfield from 1941 to 1945.

He was a communicant of St. Anthony's Church, where he was a lector and an usher for many years. He also was a longtime volunteer with its annual bazaar and La Festa committees.

While in Pittsfield, he was a communicant of Holy Family Church. He was a member of the GE Quarter Century and Pensioners' clubs and the Northern Berkshire Retired Men's Club.

He and his wife, the former Mary K. "Mamie" Florini, were married June 24, 1961, in St. Anthony's Church.

Besides his wife, he leaves a son and daughter-in-law, John B. and Deborah Bourquard Germanowski of Lenox; two sisters, Stephanie Symanowicz and Pauline Castronova, both of Pittsfield; a brother, Edmund Germanowski of Pittsfield, and a grandson, Matthew J. Germanowski of Lenox.

He was predeceased by his daughter, Tina Marie Germanowski-Leja, on Jan. 31, 2004, and two sisters, Isabelle Pytko and Genevieve Tymczuk, and a brother, Frank Germanowski.

FUNERAL NOTICE — Services for Bernard Germanowski will be held Thursday, April 14, at 9:45 at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, Central Chapels, 74 Marshall St., North Adams, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10:30 at St. Anthony of Padua Church, with the Rev. Daniel J. O'Hear, pastor, officiating.

Burial will be in Southview Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home will be tomorrow, April 13, from 4 to 7. Donations may be made to the St. Anthony's Capital Campaign Fund or American Cancer Society through the funeral home.
