William J. Gazzaniga, 77
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. â€' William John Gazzaniga, 77, of 392 Reservoir Road died Sunday evening, Dec. 10, 2000, at North Adams Regional Hospital, to which he was admitted on Nov. 28.Born in North Adams on Aug. 31, 1923, son of Louis P. and Giuseppina DellaBianca Gazzaniga, he graduated from Drury High School with the class of 1942 and attended the General Electric Apprentice School for one year. He later attended the former North Adams State Teachers College for a year.
A Marine veteran of World War II, he enlisted in March 1943. He served in the Pacific theater and participated in securing the island of Guam with the 3rd Marine Division. He was honorably discharged in 1945 with the rank of sergeant.
Mr. Gazzaniga was employed in the business his father established, Gazzaniga's Paint and Wallpaper Store, for many years until his retirement. He left briefly to work in the construction business in Detroit from 1953 to 1955.
He enjoyed playing bridge and cribbage with his nieces and nephews.
He leaves a sister, Florence Netherwood of Largo, Fla.; two brothers, retired Air Force Col. Louis A. Gazzaniga of San Antonio and James Robert Gazzaniga of Williamstown, and nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
He was predeceased by another sister, Helen A. Parisien on Jan. 7, 1995, and brothers Angelo L. Gazzaniga on Aug. 23, 1984, Harold J. Gazzaniga on May 16, 1958, and Henry F. Gazzaniga on Oct. 17. 1980.
FUNERAL NOTICE â€' Funeral services for Mr. Gazzaniga will take place Wednesday afternoon at 2 at Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams, with the Rev. Daniel J. O'Hear, pastor of St. Anthony of Padua Church.
Burial will be in Southview Cemetery. Calling hours will be Wednesday afternoon from 12:30 until the time of the funeral. Donations may be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation in care of Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams, MA 01247, which is in charge of arrangements.
