Francis E. Lawson, 88
ADAMS, Mass. — Francis E. Lawson, 88, of 17 Pleasant St., the Barrett House, died Thursday, Jan. 15, 2004, at North Adams Regional Hospital, where was admitted Jan. 4.Born in Adams on March 26, 1915, son of Gilbert R. and Eva R. Alderman Lawson, he attended local schools and graduated from the former Adams High School in 1933. He attended Purdue University for several years.
Mr. Lawson was employed by GE for 35 years, retiring as a value engineer in the transformer division in 1975. Prior to that he worked at the former Brightwater Paper Co.
A communicant of the Parish of Notre Dame-St. Thomas, he was also a member of the GE Pensioners and Quarter Century clubs and a member of the Flat Earth Society.
His wife, the former Elizabeth Rita McGrath, whom he married on April 29, 1939, died on May 19, 1978.
He leaves three sons, James F. Lawson of Columbus, Ga., Dennis D. Lawson of Adams and Glenn F. Lawson of Pittsfield; three brothers, Harold and George Lawson, both of Adams, and Gordon Lawson of Milwaukee; three sisters, Elinor L. Caffrey, Claire L. Juif and Betty Szufnarwski, all of Adams, six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by another brother, John Lawson.
FUNERAL NOTICE — A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated for the life of Mr. Lawson on Wednesday, Jan. 21, at 10 at St. Thomas' Church.
Burial will follow in Bellevue Cemetery. Private calling hours for the family only will be Wednesday from 8:30 to 9:30 at McBRIDE FUNERAL HOME, 6 Liberty St., which is in charge of arrangements.
