Dorothy Ruth McGraw
Dorothy Ruth McGraw, 77, formerly of Church Street, died yesterday morning at Williamstown Commons, following a long illness.Born in Williamstown on Aug. 8, 1925, daughter of Albert James Cummings Jr. and Ruth Hickox Cummings, she was a 1942 graduate of the former Williamstown High School.
She later attended the former Bliss Business College in North Adams.
Mrs. McGraw was employed in the food service department at Williams College, retiring in 1988.
She also had worked at the former Gaevert Film Co. and then as a cook at the Adams Nursing Home in Williamstown.
She was a member of White Oaks Church and its Martha and Mary Society and Needle Club. She also was a member of the Fabulous Forties of Williamstown High School and the Harper Center.
She enjoyed baking, cooking, sewing and crocheting.
Her husband, William Lawrence McGraw Sr., whom she married June 23, 1945, in First Baptist Church, died Sept. 15, 1987.
She leaves a son, William L. McGraw Jr. of Dennisport; three daughters, Judith Ann Lescarbeau and Karen Sue Saunders, both of North Adams, and Linda Jane McGraw of Williamstown; a brother, Albert James Cummings III of Bennington, Vt.; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Dorothy Ruth McGraw will be Friday, May 16, at 1 from Sherman Burbank Memorial Chapel in Williamstown. Burial will take place in the family lot in Eastlawn Cemetery. Friends may call at GEORGE M. HOPKINS FUNERAL HOME today, Thursday, from 6 to 8, when the family will be in attendance.
If friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to White Oaks Church or to a charity of the donor’s choice through the funeral home, 61-67 Spring St., Williamstown, MA 01267. She also leaves her daughter-in-law, Lynn; sons-in-law, Philip Lescarbeau and Donald Saunders, and nieces, nephews and cousins. Predeceased by a grandson, Jason Stephen McGraw, on June 18, 1986.
