Arthur F. Meranti, 76
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. - Arthur F. Meranti, 76, of 69 North St. died Thursday, Nov. 28, 2002, at home.Born in North Adams on May 24, 1926, son of Antonio and Rosaria Pulanno Mirante, he was educated in local schools, including Drury High School.
An Army veteran of World War II, he was a technician fifth grade, serving with the 51st Armored Infantry Battalion in the European theater and Central Europe campaigns.
Mr. Meranti was employed by Girardi Distributors for more than 20 years, retiring in 1985. Earlier, he had worked for the former Windsor Print Works and the former Cornish Wire Co. in Williamstown.
A lifelong communicant of St. Anthony's Church, he was a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks 487 and Frank R. Stiles Post 125 American Legion.
He and his wife, the former Alice H. Burdick, celebrated their 48th wedding anniversary Nov. 27. They were married in St. Joachim's Church in Readsboro, Vt.
Besides his wife, he leaves two daughters, Kathy Meranti and her husband, John Bergeron, of Stamford, Vt., and Rosemarie M. Ansel and her husband, James, of New Lebanon, N.Y.; six sisters, Beatrice Meranti, Rachel Canedy, Celia Mirante, Anna Mirante, Rita Mirante and Mary Aldrich, all of North Adams; two brothers, Edward Mirante and Salvatore "Sammy" Mirante of North Adams, and two granddaughters, Katie and Jackie Ansel, both of New Lebanon.
He was predeceased by siblings Rachele Mirante in infancy; Antonio L. Mirante on Dec. 3, 1996, Theodore Meranti on March 6, 1997, Letizia "Laddie" Meranti on July 14, 1998, and James J. Mirante on Nov. 2, 1998.
FUNERAL NOTICE - Services for Arthur F. Meranti will be Thursday, Dec. 5, at 10:30 at St. Francis of Assisi Church, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial celebrated by the Rev. Daniel J. O'Hear, pastor of St. Anthony of Padua Church. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery.
