Alfred V. Ostrowski, 85
ADAMS, Mass. — Alfred Victor Ostrowski, 85, of 5 Elm St. died Wednesday morning, Aug. 7, 2002, at Craneville Place in Dalton.Born in Adams on Sept. 10, 1916, son of Jozef and Katarzyna Ostrowski, he attended local schools.
He was an Army veteran of World War II.
Mr. Ostrowski owned and operated Al's Service Station on Commercial Street from 1946 until 1997. In his younger years, he operated a demolition business and razed the largest Berkshire Mill, where the town parking lot is now located. He also owned properties in Adams, including where the new Discover Adams Visitors Center will be built. Prior to 1946, he worked for the former Arnold Print Works and for GE in Pittsfield for several years.
He was a communicant of St. Stanislaus Kostka Church. He was a member of Frank Bednarz Post 160 American Legion and the Adams Lodge of Elks.
He and his wife, the former Helen B. Diesz, were married Nov. 15, 1952.
Besides his wife, he leaves a son, Alfred V. "Rick" Ostrowski Jr. of North Adams; three daughters, Diane M. Whalen of Pittsfield, Carol L. Ostrowski of Adams and Sally-Jo Hunt of Cheshire; a brother, Edward Ostrowski of Adams, and eight grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE — Services will be Saturday at 9:15 from AUGE-PACIOREK-SIMMONS FUNERAL HOME, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 at St. Stanislaus Kostka Church with the Rev. John C. Chwalek, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in St. Stanislaus Cemetery.
Calling hours at the funeral home will be Friday from 5 to 8. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to either the VNA and Hospice of Northern Berkshire Inc. or the Berkshire Humane Society, through the funeral home, 13 Hoosac St., Adams, MA 01220.
