Roger B. Ottman, 77
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Roger Benzie Ottman, 77, of 863 Massachusetts Ave. died Sunday, April 28, 2002, at North Adams Regional Hospital, where he was admitted April 20.Born in North Adams on Nov. 17, 1924, son of Webster H. and Mildred Benzie Ottman, he was a 1943 graduate of Drury High School. He resided in North Adams most of his life, residing in Williamstown from 1950 to 1960.
He was a Navy veteran of World War II.
Mr. Ottman was employed by the former Sprague Electric Co. for 38 years as a master technician. Following his retirement in 1986, he worked part time for three years as sexton at First United Methodist Church.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church and past master of the former Greylock Lodge of Masons AF&AM, now Lafayette-Greylock Lodge AF&AM. He was a past high priest of the Composite Chapter of Royal Arch Masons; past grand scribe of the Grand chapter of Royal Arch Masons of Massachusetts; Paul commander of the St. Paul Commandery 40 Knights Templar; a member of the Athol-Orange Commandery 37, and past grand commander of the Grand Commandery Knights Templar of Massachusetts and Rhode Island.
Mr. Ottman was also a member of the Melha Temple of Springfield, the Berkshire Council Scottish Rites, the Scottish Rite of Greenfield, St. Matthew's Conclave-Red Cross of Constantine, Knights of the York Cross of Honor and the Mayflower York Rite College 105. He was also past illustrious master of the former William Parsons Council and past patron of Naomi Chapter 17, Order of Eastern Star.
He and his wife, the former Sally A. Hillard, would have celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary June 16.
Besides his wife, he leaves his stepmother, Madelon Ottman of Williamstown.
FUNERAL NOTICE — The funeral will be Wednesday at 10 at First United Methodist Church, North Adams. The Rev. Susan Stewart, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in Southview Cemetery, North Adams. Calling hours at AUGE-SAN SOUCIE-SIMMONS Funeral Home, North Adams, will be April 30 from 6 to 8.
The family requests the omission of flowers and suggests donations in his memory be made to First United Methodist Church through the funeral home, 46 North Church St., 01247.
