George L. DeGrenier, 85
PITTSFIELD, Mass. — George Lionel DeGrenier, 85, of Rose Manor, 195 Elberon Ave., died Sunday, March 3, 2003, at Berkshire Medical Center.Born in North Adams on Jan. 2, 1917, son of William and Virginia Gaudreau DeGrenier, he attended the former Notre Dame School and Drury High School. He resided at 109 Gallup St. before moving to Pittsfield in December 1999.
A World War II Navy veteran, he served on submarines as a seaman first class.
Mr. DeGrenier was employed as manager of the furniture division of Parker Machine Co. for 15 years, retiring in 1980. Prior to that, he had been employed at the former Sprague Electric Co. and the former Hoosac Cotton Mill, all in North Adams.
A communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Church, he was a former member of Aerie 310 Fraternal Order of Eagles, the former Lafayette Club, and the Greylock Community Club.
His wife, the former Mary A. Mould, whom he married Sept. 5, 1938, died Nov. 15, 2001.
He leaves four sons, Donald G. DeGrenier of North Adams, Dennis A. DeGrenier of Anniston, Ala., Lawrence E. DeGrenier of Bradford, and Wayne DeGrenier of Turners Falls, 13 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by a daughter, Virginia Keating, and by seven brothers, Victor, William, Leon, Edward, Joseph, Harvey and Albert DeGrenier.
FUNERAL NOTICE — The funeral will be Wednesday, March 6, at 11 from AUGE-SAN SOUCIE-SIMMONS FUNERAL HOME. The Rev. Robert Moulton, permanent deacon of the parish of Notre Dame-St. Thomas in Adams, will officiate. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery, Adams.
Calling hours at the funeral home will be Tuesday from 5 to 7. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in his memory be made to Elder Services of Berkshire County, through the funeral home, 46 North Church St., MA 01247.
