Ernest W. Hall, 77

STOCKBRIDGE, Mass. â€' Ernest W. Hall, 77, of 9 Goodrich St. died Friday morning, Jan. 12, 2001, at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield after a short illness.

Born in the family home in Stockbridge on Dec. 24, 1923, one of five children of Robert J. and Elizabeth Hughes Hall, he attended Stockbridge schools.

An Army veteran of World War II, he served with the 7th Depot Army Repair Squadron.

Mr. Hall established Hall's Taxi Service in 1947 and Hall's Auto Service on Main Street in May 1948. He ran the combined company until 1960, when he closed the taxi business. Hall’s Auto Service is still run by his wife and son.

An active member of the community, he was an honorary member of the Stockbridge Fire Department. He was also a longtime member and past president of the Stockbridge/West Stockbridge Kiwanis Club. He was a member of the Stockbridge Sportmans Club, Adams-Budz VFW Post 8183 and Joseph A. Libardi Jr. American Legion Post 254 in West Stockbridge.

He and his wife, the former Helena Baker, were married on Jan. 31, 1953, in Great Barrington.

Besides his wife, he leaves a son, Michael W. Hall of Stockbridge; three brothers, Kenneth M. Hall of Newton, N.C., Robert A. Hall of Peabody and Douglas R. Hall of Stockbridge; a sister, Bernice Hall Small of Cape Coral, Fla., three granddaughters, Rebecca, Jillian and Amelia, and many nieces and nephews.

FUNERAL NOTICE â€' Funeral services for Mr. Hall will be conducted Monday, Jan. 15, at 11 a.m. from Finnerty & Stevens Funeral Home by the Rev. John Tarrant, pastor of St. Paul's Episcopal Church. Burial will follow in the family plot in Stockbridge Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Sunday, Jan. 14, from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. Those who desire may make memorial contributions to the Stockbridge Fire Department or American Legion Post 254 in West Stockbridge through the funeral home, 426 Main St., Great Barrington, MA 01230.
