George E. Bushika, 68
FLORIDA, Mass. — George Edward Bushika, 68, of 58 Tilda Hill Road died Monday, Oct. 29, 2001, at Williamstown Commons, where he was admitted Oct. 17. He was a longtime town assessor and poll worker.Born in Stamford, Vt., on Dec. 4, 1932, son of Joseph and Gladys Rennell Bushika, he attended schools there. He also attended Drury High School in North Adams.
An Army veteran, he served as a corporal with the Quartermaster Corps in France and Germany from March 4, 1953, until Feb. 10, 1955.
Mr. Bushika was employed by Renau Construction Co. of Pittsfield for more than 27 years, retiring in 1995 as a foreman. He was first employed by the former Sprague Electric Co. and later joined the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America Carpenters Union Local 108 of Pittsfield.
He was a longtime town official and volunteer in the town projects. He volunteered his services in the renovation of buildings in the town. He served as president of the Carpenters Local 108 for many years.
He and his wife, the former Gerda Rebecca Mullette, were married Aug. 1, 1953, in Florida Baptist Church
Besides his wife, he leaves three daughters, Valerie Lynn Grillone of Reedsville, N.C., Kimberly Ann Zavattaro of Montpelier, Ind., and Karen Lee Hustek of Naugatuck, Conn.; two sons, Martin Edward Bushika of Winter Springs, Fla., and Jerry Alan Bushika of Taunton; two sisters, Helen Wardwell of Cropseyville, N.Y., and Elizabeth "Betty" Smiley of Loveland, Ohio; six brothers, Joseph Bushika Jr., Frank Bushika, Thomas Bushika and James Bushika, all of Stamford, and Walter Bushika and Charles Bushika, both of Bennington, Vt., and 17 grandchildren.
A brother, Arthur Bushika, is deceased.
FUNERAL NOTICE — Funeral will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Florida Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the family lot in Church Cemetery. Calling hours at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams, are Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m.
