Catherine Couture, 85
WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Catherine Pauline Couture, 85, of 181 Bridges Road died Saturday, Oct. 27, 2001, at Williamstown Commons, where she had resided since July 6.Born in Worcester on July 20, 1916, daughter of John F. and Catherine O'Leary McCann, she attended Worcester schools until moving to Williamstown in 1932. She was a 1934 graduate of the former Williamstown High School.
Mrs. Couture was employed by the former Sprague Electric Co. for four years and the former Gale Shoe Co. for nine years, both in North Adams, and the former Gaveart's Co. for two years. She cared for children in her home for 32 years, retiring several years ago.
She was a communicant of St. Patrick's Church and a member of its guild, and a former Cub Scout den mother and Brownie leader in Williamstown.
She leaves her husband, George E. Couture, whom she married Jan. 19, 1946; a son, Eugene T. Couture of Bakersfield, Calif.; two foster sons, Kevin F. Rooney, stationed with the Air Force in Georgia, and Terry P. Rooney of Orange; three daughters, Barbara A. Couture and Paula J. Couture, both of Williamstown, and Kathryn M. Birkett of Burlington, Vt.; a brother, Joseph P. McCann of North Adams; two sisters, Mary E. Mancuse and Margaret M. McCann, both of Framingham; and nine grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
FUNERAL NOTICE — The funeral will be Wednesday at 9 from Auge-San Soucie-Simmons Funeral Home, North Adams, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial celebrated at 10 in St. Patrick's Church by the Rev. William F. Cyr, pastor. Burial will follow in Eastlawn Cemetery, Williamstown.
Visiting hours will be private for family. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in her memory be made to the food pantry at St. Patrick's Church through the funeral home, 46 North Church St., North Adams, MA 01247.
