Joseph R. Tassone, 83
WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Joseph Rocco Tassone, 83, of 93 Nutmeg Lane, The Spruces, died Oct. 26, 2001, at North Adams Regional Hospital, where he was admitted Wednesday.Born in North Adams on Sept. 7, 1918, son of Antonio and Teresa Ciardi Tassone, he attended North Adams schools.
An Army veteran of World War II, he enlisted in 1939 and did basic training at Fort Devens in Ayer. He was stationed in the Panama Canal zone as a private, first class.
Mr. Tassone was employed by GE in Pittsfield in the power transformer division, retiring in 1978 with more than 18 years of service. Before enlisting, he worked at the former H.W. Clark Biscuit Co. on Ashland Street and later by the former Gale Shoe Co. on Brown Street, both in North Adams. Upon returning in 1943, he was employed by the former Orlando Farinon Carpentry as a mason carpenter and later by the Boston & Maine Railroad in the early 1950s.
He was a longtime communicant of Incarnation Church in North Adams, now Our Lady of Mercy Shrine, and a member of the GE Pensioners' Club. He was a former candlepin bowler with the North Adams Men's Club and enjoyed camping, hiking and dancing. He was a fan of the New York Yankees.
He and his wife, the former Ann M. Ziemba, were married Feb. 13, 1943, in St. Stanislaus Church in Adams.
Besides his wife, he leaves a daughter, Dianne Filiault of North Adams; three sons, Gerald F. Tassone of Belair, Md., Guy A. Tassone of North Adams and Terrence J. Tassone of Virginia Beach, Va.; two sisters, Rita Tassone Jackson of Kerrville, Texas, and Theresa Tassone Morris of North Adams; a brother, John B. Tassone of North Adams; 11 grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by four brothers and four sisters, Rose Lazarczyk, Angelina Rizzo, Letizia Tassone, Carmela Willette, Bruno Tassone, Dominick Tassone, Angelo Tassone and Francis Tassone.
FUNERAL NOTICE — Services for Mr. Tassone will be Monday at 8:15 from Flynn and Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, West Chapels, followed by a Funeral Mass at 9 at Our Lady of Mercy Shrine on Massachusetts Avenue, both in North Adams. Burial will be in Southview Cemetery in North Adams.
