John C. Gottardi, 64

READSBORO, Vt. — John C. "Jack" Gottardi, 64, of 57 Bridge St., Shelburne Falls, formerly of Readsboro, died Friday, Oct. 12, 2001, at Franklin Medical Center in Greenfield, Mass.

Born in Readsboro on April 20, 1937, son of Beatrice Letourneau Gottardi of Cheshire, Mass., and the late John V. Gottardi, he was a 1954 graduate of the former St. Joseph's High School in North Adams and attended the former North Adams State College.

Mr. Gottardi was employed by Yankee Atomic in Rowe, Mass., for 28 years before retiring. Prior to that, he had been employed by the former Sprague Electric Co. in North Adams for several years.

He was a member of the American Legion Post in Readsboro and the Western Mass Rod & Gun Club in Shelburne Falls. He also was a member and past president of the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Shelburne Falls. He was a 32nd-degree Mason of Scottish Rites and a member of the Masonic Mt. Lodge of Shelburne Falls. A sports enthusiast, he was a fan of the New York Yankees and was an umpire for the Shelburne Falls men's softball league for several years.

Besides his mother, he leaves his wife, the former Alice Williams Girard, whom he married July 19, 1973; three sons, David M. Gottardi of Agawam, Mass., Christopher J. Gottardi of Springfield, Mass., and Steven A. Gottardi of West Springfield, Mass.; two stepsons, Marc E. Girard and Steve C. Girard, both of Buckland, Mass.; two brothers, Richard Gottardi of Parsippany, N.J., and Brian Gottardi of Balch Springs, Texas; a sister, Nancy Zappula of Cheshire; four grandchildren; seven stepgrandchildren, and two step-great-grandchildren.

FUNERAL NOTICE — Services for Mr. Gottardi will be held Tuesday, Oct. 16, at 9:15 a.m. at SMITH-KELLEHER FUNERAL HOME in Shelburne Falls, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Shelburne Falls. Burial will be in Readsboro Cemetery.

Calling hours will be Monday from 6 to 9 at the funeral home. It is suggested donations be made to either The Salvation Army, 72 Chapman St., Greenfield, MA 01301, or to the Shelburne Falls Fire Department, Williams Street, Shelburne Falls, MA 01370.
